A New Generation Of MVPs -11/03/02 With the introduction of Loser and Turd Ferguson, we begin the Era of The New School MVPs. All but a few of the old school MVPs are on the list, and now we begin to honor those who have come to call the new Quantum Mechanics home. While these guys can't wax nostalgically about the good-ol' days of the 4-player QM, they can help us to ensure many good games to come. Welcome to the new MVPs.

Admin MOD - Back in Action!! - Those cool dudes over at XGS have hooked me up with Admin Mod. Right now, it's running its default messages and configs, but not to worry, very soon I'll have the old configs back into effect.

Crush depth Beta 2 Released -10/31/02 I have finally owned up to creating Crush Depth. The map has been on the server yet has not been on the site, simply because I didn't feel it was "Up to par" even for a beta map. I made another pass at it, adding a custom sky and ambient sounds. While still far from being anywhere close to complete, it is a much better version. Now it takes it's place here on the site in the Beta Maps Section.

Big City Sneak-Peek -10/21/02 Over the weekend, some of the QM regulars and I got a chance to preview the next map coming down the pipe from Quantum Saint. Big City is hard to classify as any one style. It's almost a run-n-gun arena, yet it's wide open like a sniper map. QS has used some really fantastic custom textures to create a very realistic feeling cityscape. This map is not available for download and will not be put into the rotation yet. QS has stated that the main focus now is to finalize some of the other betas before making this a public beta. This weekends play test was simply to verify that the map was playable and that work should continue on it. The majority (unanimous) opinion was that it ran great and was extremely fun to play.

Rock The Casbah Beta 4 Released!-10/19/02 The hits just keep coming from Quantum Saint. Just four days after the release of SJB5, he has put out Rock the Casbah Beta 4. Reportedly, the increase in activity is an effort to finalize a lot of these maps and clear the path for something completely new. I'll keep you posted as more info comes my way.

Say Hello To My Little Friends - 10/18/02 Pincushion and Macguyver  have been added to the MVPs list. Their addition is long overdue, but one of the many reasons they are MVPs is because they can put up my slakastic ways. Both guys have been around for a very long time, and I figured it was about time they were recognized for their contributions to the server. Be sure to download their models from the MVPs page.

Op4CTF Attrition Beta-Pack Released - 10/17/02 I have released my latest updates to Op4CTF Attrition in a beta map pack. The Pack includes two versions of the map: Powerless (beta2) and Power Struggle (beta1). The Power Struggle version adds a full set of Power-Ups hidden through-out the map.  Download the Beta-Pack The next beta-pack will include all three versions for testing. I plan on getting all of the kinks worked out of these maps before converting them to the final version: Power Mad, which will have a set of Power-Ups for each team.

Quantum Saint Map Pack Construction Begun - I have started the construction of a comprehensive QS map pack which will include all of his finished maps. Once it is completed and given QS's seal of approval, I will make it available for download.

Sniper Jungle Beta 5 Released!-10/15/02 Quantum Saint has released SJ-B5 for our gaming pleasure! This release has one last major gameplay tweak and loads of "final touch-ups." This looks to be the last beta of this map before it goes gold so Download it. QS has also sent word of further development of the long on-hold map 'Rock The Casbah', so hopefully we'll be seeing beta version 4 of it soon.

Server Console Working - I have had access to the server console for about two weeks now, but have just now gotten a chance to test it, and IT WORKS! Woohoo! The first thing I have done is reorganized the mapcycle and added SniperJungle_B5 to the rotation. The maps now alternate between big and small. Check the Server Info Page for the updated map cycle.

Good News and Bad News - 9/13/02 The good news is that the Server Control Console is up over at XGS. The bad news is that I don't have a login yet. I've been told that the logins will be e-mailed sometime today or tomorrow, so hopefully we'll have the server running at full speed before the weekend is out.

Team MVP site opened - 9/10/02 Having a little extra time on my hands while waiting for XGS has gotten me all high-and-mighty. I have created a second site call Team-MVP. Not to be confused with the MVPs of Quantum Mechanics (although every MVP here has a spot already reserved for them in Team MVP), Team MVP is dedicated to making online gaming better for everyone. Right now, our focus will be directed towards Op4CTF, where our presence is desperately needed. Eventually, MVPs will be seen in all online games, or at least, that is my dream.

Server Changed as glitches are worked out - 9/05/02 As many of you already know, server problems are causing some weird effects during gameplay. Namely, life and armor boxes won't restore you hit points and armor points. I cannot fix these errors until XGS gets the Admin Controls retooled for the Linux servers. Unfortunately, we have no time table on when they are supposed to be finished. On the last update from tech support (3 days ago) the project should already be finished...but its not. These problems have generated concern from the level designer that this site and server are dedicated to. Quantum Saint sent me this e-mail earlier today:

I would like to request that you temporarily remove all maps created by me (QS) from rotation on your server due to the fact that your server does not operate correctly at this time. I feel it is in the best interest of projects I have worked very hard on and wish not to be dismissed from legitimate servers in the future due to reputations accrued in the past for which the map was not at fault. I'm sure you understand my concern being a map maker yourself. Please feel free to return them to the rotation once your server conflicts have been resolved.

I do understand where QS is coming from, and therefore, I am going with a standard mapcycle until these problems are resolved. The server will operate under the temporary name of No-Life Half-life. When the problems are resolved, we will return to our regularly scheduled program.

Quantum Mechanics Back Online! - 8/30/02 With the help of Xtreme Gaming Servers, QM has has risen from the ashes bigger and bolder than ever. We now have 12 players slots, tripling our capacity. Our new STATIC IP (woohoo!) is 65.113.115.244:27025. Don't forget that port number, it's very important. For their help in making Quantum Mechanics the best server....EVER, XGS gets the coveted top spot on my Quick Links. Sorry Mustang, I gotta give 'em their due props. Right now the server will be running in a stripped down mode while I get configured with the maps and features it had before. Finally, the maps of Quantum Saint have venue worthy of their badness! It's time for the major leagues folks. I hope your ready. 

Down But Not Out - 8/29/02 My upload ability has deteriorated to the point that I can not longer run a decent server. I have taken the server down because it is lagging with only three players and a two player server just isn't worth having. I am currently looking into renting a game server from a game server service. When I find one, I'll be back in business. Until that time, you can find me at Great Spirie's new server Road To Nowhere.

 

Connection woes continue - 8/25/02 After the latest reshuffling of my connection by Verizon, my bandwidth seems to be smaller than ever. Today I was forced to admit the sad truth and lower my number of players from 4 to 3. Also, due to configuration changes by Verizon (separate subnets for my client and server), I am no longer able to play on the server. I flood the server and pings quickly rise above 2000 when I join.

These are sad events indeed, but fear not! I WILL find a way to increase my bandwidth even if it requires the most drastic measures. My first step will be to purchase a new router. The Linksys that I have been using is unable to route Half-life and thus I've been using as a hub all these months. Replacing it should allow me to create an internal network and once again play on the server. Second, I will be working with Verizon to activate another line that was wired previously at this location. Hopefully, it will be much better quality than my current connection. If not, then I will begin preparations to relocate to a new area with better connection potential.

Scripting Complaints Addressed - Some of the MVPs have been complaining about a new comer to the server (who will remain nameless). They have reported that they believe the player to be using a number of scripts to get an unfair advantage. I have played against this player and have asked him point blank about his use of scripts, which he completely denies. I cannot tell one way or another if he is using scripts. While his abilities seem above average, I cannot automatically attribute this to scripting. To be fair and impartial, I must take him at his word. However, to protect the server,  I am implementing a script scanner which will kick players for having unfair scripts bound (i.e. - long-jump, backwards long-jump, crossbow no-zoom snipe, ect.) I AM NOT doing this to target any one player, but to eliminate any question that every player is playing fairly.

End on a Good Note - Progress on CrushDepth Beta 2 is moving at a brisk pace. I am hoping to have it out before the end of the month. Stay tuned for screen shots.

Sniper Jungle Beta 4 Released - 8/20/02 The latest offering from Quantum Saint adds a ton of sounds and even more sniper spots! The sounds really make the map come alive now. Check it out!

To celebrate the release of SJB4, I'm running the map ALL day today! Woohoo! Get in the server and snipe away!

Op4CTF Attrition Beta 1 Released - My new map is ready for the light of day. If you like Op4CTF, then Download it Here. Hopefully I'll get as much feedback on this map as I did on Two Worlds. Now that this one is to Beta, I'll turn my attention to some neglected HLDM maps I've been meaning to put out.

It's alive! ALIVE!! - 8/13/02 The New and Improved Quantum Mechanics is in effect. Once again, we have a new IP address: 4.40.151.199. I like this new IP and I'm hoping we get to keep it, but I'm not holding my breath.

Lots of News all at once  - 8/9/02 In no specific order, the nominees are:

IP Address Changed - The new IP is now 4.46.169.253. Lets all give Verizon a big hand for reminding us that I'm to cheap to go static. <golf claps>

Quantum Mechanics LAN Party - Nothing is concrete yet, except our resolve. We are looking at early or mid-October as the time frame and "Somewhere in Dallas" as the location. If you want to come, send me an E-mail. All of the MVPs are invited, so if your names in the MVP list, send me an e-mail letting me know if you can make it or not.

Server Upgrade This Weekend - On Saturday 8/10/02 the server will go down. It will come back up the same day as a PIII-500mhz. The old PII-400 will be retired. I'm aiming at upgrading the server again in December, funds permitting.

Third times the charm for Two Worlds  - 7/27/02 Version 3 is out and it will be *crosses fingers behind back* The FINAL Version. No honestly, I swear this time! I really am done with it now, and I'm eager to get my next few maps pumped out. Stay tuned for previews of my upcoming stuff.

To avoid confusion (Too Late!!), I've renamed the map to Op4CTF_TwoWorlds. Ask for it at your local deli, or just Download it here.

Two Worlds Re-Released - 6/30/02 Did I say "for better or worse". Well, screw THAT. After just thirty minutes of play, some badass players showed just how bad I had screwed up. So, I've fixed those major errors and I'm sending it out again. Overwrite the old one. Sorry about the screw up. Download the fixed version

Two Worlds Released - 6/30/02 For better or worse, here it is. I'm calling it done even though I haven't been able to beta test it very much. Hopefully, it will be a fun addition to the OP4CTF community. Check it out.

More Backgrounds - 5/15/02 That's right! I got nothing better than a couple a stinkin backgrounds (actually, they're pretty good). Unfortunately, I've been playing Half-Life more than working on it...what a slacker. The second isn't half-life related, but it is called Molecular Detonation. Get it?! Quantum Mechanics and Molecu......nevermind.

Dethpod added to MVP list - 4/30/02 I was able to hold Dethpod down long enough to snap a picture of him. Now he's one of us. One of us! One of us! Welcome DP.

Got the HL Patch blues? - 4/29/02 It seems that no-one is very happy with the latest patch from Valve. Some have reported have blank white skies on some maps. A work around for this is to use Pakscape to copy all of the skies from the PAK file in the \half-life\valve folder and  into the \half-life\valve\env folder. Clear as mud? Good.

Server Updated and Running - 4/27/02 The bad news is that Admin Mod seems to have crapped out for some reason. Not their fault though. A re-install of Admin Mod is in order I think. Just when ya get it the way ya want it.....

Sniper Jungle Beta 3 Released - 4/21/02 The new version adds more awesome visuals and makes both the jump mod and egon more challenging to get. Check it out!

If you already have Beta 2: Download the Update. Extract this zip file to your Sierra\half-life\valve\maps folder.

New Stuff on the site- 4/7/02 The big list of links to the right is new, and there's a new main section called Most Valuable Players. This is basically a models page, but it's also a list of the outstanding players you'll find on the server. The list is short right now because I need to get some more mug shots.

There's now a Server Status Monitor under the Server Info page. I didn't put it out on the main page because it will sometimes delay the page loading.

Atomic Punk Beta Released- 4/6/02 Here's a new map from me called Atomic Punk. Hopefully I'll have some screen shots of the new Sniper Jungle from QS.

Building the better Deathmatch - 3/31/02 I've been tweaking around with the server, and trying out a few Admin Mod plug-in scripts. Let me know what you think in the Forums. Thanks to Macgyver for pointing me in the right direction to get the effects I wanted. Speaking of Mac....

Check out Macgyver's Deathmatch. Mac and Snake are running thru Sniper Jungle and moshin it up in Blast Box with a huge crowd, so you know you'll find me there! Mac runs a pretty tight ship, and its a real blast to play there. Check it out now!

OOPS!! - 2/28/02 Shortly after releasing Power House I realized there were some game play issues that had to be addressed. They have been fixed "hopefully" and so now Power House is being re-released. It's got the exact same name so if you've downloaded it already, you'll need to download it again, and overwrite the existing version. Sorry about the screw up.

Power House goes Gold - 2/27/02 After much debating, I've decided to go ahead and call Power House done. There are no changes from Beta 3 to final version so you can just rename it if you already have it. There may be an expanded version of it in the future, but I'm really itching to move on to a new project. If you don't already have it, download it here.

Server online!! - 2/23/02 Much sooner than they said, but thats alright with me!. The new IP address is 4.62.233.246:27015. So get in there and kick some ass!

Server Outage Update - 2/23/02 Verizon tells me that the line will be activated on the 26th, so hopefully well be up and running no later that the 27th. Stay tuned for more updates.

Server Outage Update - 2/17/02 I ordered DSL on Friday, but the best speed they can supply at this new location is 128 UL / 768 DL. The due date is the 28th. The server will have a new IP address because of the move. I'll post the IP as soon as the server goes up.

Server Down TEMPORARILY - 2/7/02 I'm moving. Service will be cut on the 10th. I can't get my DSL transferred until the line is on at my new location. The bad news is the DSL transfer will take 1 - 3 weeks! The server will be down for a minimum of 9 days. I will update as I get info on the due date.

Beta 3 MADNESS! - 12/18/01 Rock The Casbah Beta 3 has been released. It has been updated on the server already.

I've made a big push on my maps and now I'm ready to release the Beta 3 versions of "Power House" and  my OP4CTF map "2 Worlds".

Admin Mod in the House! - Most of you have noticed that Map voting is now possible along with all the other cool Admin Mod tricks. The bad news is that I only have it set up for the standard rotation right now, so Theme Days are on hold until I get it ironed out.

Business as Usual  - 11/20/01 Nothing new to report. Manhunt Monday went rather well, but I'll be upping the time limit during MM's to give players a little more time to hunt.

Fragfest Friday  - 11/16/01 It's time to totally cut loose! Get out there and whip yourselves into a killing frenzy! As always, check out the map cycle on the server info page.

OP4 Wednesday  - 11/14/01 Grab the SAW or the Sniper Rifle and kick some ass because it's OP4 all day. Check the Server Info page to make sure you have all of the maps.

Manhunt Monday  - 11/12/01 Check the map cycle on the Server Info page to make sure you've got them all because there won't be time to DL them directly from the server. The Hunt will last from Monday 7:00am to 7:00am on Tuesday. See you there!

Switch It Up For A While  - 11/10/01 We're going to be doing something a little different in the next couple of weeks on a trial basis.  I'm going to run THEME DAYS.  They will start at 7:00am and end at 7:00am the next morning. Themes will include: 

MANHUNT MONDAY - Seven huge maps for hunting your prey down. Creep, sneak, and kill.

OP4 WEDNESDAY - We're breakin' out the big guns on hump day. All QS, All Op4, All Day.

FRAGFEST FRIDAY - Go NUTS! Take the hardest of the hardcore QS arenas and kill, Kill...KILL!!!!

New Server Variables:     Forced Respawn = OFF    Weapon Stay = ON

Nothing is carved in stone...but, you have to SPEAK UP!! If there's something I can fix, let me know in the forums.

QM_Nuke Beta Released!!  - 10/30/01 And the hits just keep rollin!! One day after the release of Sniper Gulch, QS has dropped a bomb on Quantum Mechanics. The third  installment of The Yard series is a very special addition to this site/server. Download it and see why.

The Beta Maps area has been given it's own menu choice in the Maps section.

The Server Map Cycle has been re-arranged. Nothing was removed from the cycle, simply reshuffled.  All of the recent Beta maps (including QM_Nuke) are in the list. Go to the Server Info area to see the new map order. I've tried to mix up the map sizes and play styles so that it keeps the game fresh.

The Forum has been cleaned up considerably. You should no longer experience pop-ups or banners when you go there.

Sniper Gulch Beta Released! - 10/29/01 A map that has been in development for quite a long time has just been released for beta testing. Although it is a little large for the server, I'll be running it so that it can be tested for final release. Download it from the Beta Maps Section. Please report any problems you find with the map to the Forum.

Q2 No Survivors Map Pack link restored - 10/28/01 The No Survivors Map Pack had been unavailable due to hosting errors at it's old location. It's now here on this site where it belongs. Feel like kickin ass in Q2, Quantum Saint style? Download the map pack and see how Q2 is DONE.

Message Forum and News Archive Operational - 10/27/01 The message forum is now available to the patrons of this site. Stop by, check it out, and leave me a message or two. I'll be opening a Mapping Help section and Beta Feedback section. In the General section there is a post on the color scheme of the forum. Please let me know what you think of the colors. Also, EZ-Board seems to put in a bunch of pop-ups in the background. I'm looking into fixing that.

I've also added a News Archive section to keep the Home Page from getting too cluttered.

Opposing Force and Xenofrag in da house! - 10/23/01 Finally! I got off my ass and actually completed the Op4 Section. I think I'll pat myself on the back....<CAAARRRAACK!!!>  Oh God! My Arm! I need a doctor!  O.K., enough clowning around. This does represent a turning point in this site, because it means I'm no longer trying to catch up. Now I can concentrate on improving the site.  I've gotten a message board, but I'm just trying to make it presentable and link it up to the site. More to come in that area.

The other Big News is the latest Beta thrown our way by the master craftsman himself: Xenofrag. What can I say, this map is just badass. Imagine Xenergy, except in a bite-size form that entertains four players quite nicely. It's on the Beta Maps page and on the server, so pick up a copy if you don't already have it.

More Sneakin and Peekin - 10/16/01 I've added a couple more maps to the Coming Soon area.  QS's long awaited TFC map is just around the corner and I've got the pics to prove it. I've also thrown out some pics of my latest map "Power House". Check it out. As for the server......times are tight right now and I'm already dropping an nice chunk of change each month for Silver Plus DSL. If all goes well, I'll be upgrading to a business class line (768UL/768DL) and will be able to host 6~8 player. But don't hold your breathe, a lot of things have to go right for that to happen. Updates to this page will be including the completion of the OP4 area and the addition of a message board. Stay tuned.

Do I still work here?! - 09/26/01 It's been a very long time since my last update......what a slacker. Been too busy playing on the server. Current projects include a Spectator Server and QS map Overviews for Spec Mode. I released a map that is now on the server. Look in the Server Info page and click the "Blast Box" link in the Current Map List to download the map. Speaking of Downloads, all QS maps have been moved to this site. No more waiting in line or broken links when trying to score maps. Also, my DSL has been upgraded to Silver Plus Package, but that's still not good enough. I'm currently looking into a business package......obsession is SUCH an ugly word.

On the Web at last - 04/02/01 The support page has finally been posted to the internet. It's still in it's infancy, and  It will ALWAYS be under construction. Now that I have a base to work from expect regular updates. Next will be a server information & rules page, the Opposing Forces pages, and those exclusive previews of QS's latest projects.

Spinning Like A Top - 03/26/01 The Server is running full blast minus the stats tracking. Current IP is 4.40.160.89:27015, its DHCP so it MAY change in the future. I'll need to get some details ironed out before that will be possible. On an even brighter note, I'll be getting some exclusive screen shots from QS's latest maps, Including his first TFC offering. Screens will be posted soon.

Smokin! - 02/23/01, I now have Verizon DSL. It is the next to lowest package available (Bronze Plus), but it is a start. I don't think I'll be able to running the server on it, but I will be testing it in the next few weeks just to be sure. The server should be listed as Quantum Saint Fan for all those who are interested in dropping in and help test it. No stats will be recorded until the server is at 100% capability. I will post the IP address when I put it up
